Bicyclist Killed in Cincinnati, Ohio Metro Bus Accident

Metro-Bus-Accident-Bicyclist-Killed-Lawyer-Lawsuit-AttorneyA bicyclist in the Bond Hill area of Cincinnati, Ohio was killed on September 11, 2012 after being hit by a Metro bus that was carrying 8 passengers. Although the bus accident, which occurred between approximately 8:30 pm and 8:35pm, did not injure any other parties, the victim – a 59-year old Ohio man – was pronounced dead at the scene of the bus accident by the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office. Authorities are still investigating the precise causes of the accident and have been encouraging any witnesses to it to come forward to give a statement.

Despite the fact that information has not been released regarding what caused this fatal bus accident, oftentimes, errors or mistakes made by the vehicle drivers play some role in causing bus accidents and/or motor vehicle accidents. Just as distracted driving, talking or texting on cell phones and/or fidgeting with gadgets or food while driving can cause fatal bus accidents, so too can intoxication of the driver, vehicle malfunctions due to improper maintenance of a bus, and/or lack of training for the driver, who may not know how to properly respond to adverse driving conditions. Other factors that can play a role in causing or intensifying bus accidents can include poor weather conditions, poor signage on the roads and/or lack of roadway lighting at night.

Although car accidents occur more often than bus accidents, likely due to the fact that there are significantly more cars on the road than buses, when bus accidents do occur, the damage caused by them can be significantly more severe – especially, when bus accidents involve bicyclists or pedestrians; this is generally due to the fact that buses are far heavier than cars and, as a result, can do substantial damage at even very low speeds. This fact becomes glaringly apparent when looking at bus accident statistics compiled by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration: in 2009 (the most recent year for which statistics are available), 9,000 reported bus accidents nationwide resulted in about 20,000 injuries.
