Cochran-Firm-Ohio-Car-Accident-LawyerThe Labor Day holiday is one of the year’s biggest travel weekends in Ohio, yet it doesn’t take more than second for a well planned trip to turn bad. In fact, the National Safety Council (NSC) considers the #Labor Day holiday as one of the busiest and deadliest on U.S. roadways. After evaluating five years worth of data, the NSC estimates that 40,500 injuries will occur over the Labor Day weekend due to #Ohio auto accidents, and another 405 people will be killed in accidents.

Prepare for Your Labor Day Travels

Before you head out, make sure your vehicle is in good working order. Check your fluids, inflate your tires, and ensure your wiper blades are up to par. Have your favorite repair shop run a service check, and make sure your steering wheel and brakes are in good working order. Also, pack an emergency kit that includes jumper cables, a flashlight with new batteries, a tire pressure gauge, screwdrivers, wrenches, duct tape, and emergency flares. Pack a snack bag with energy bars, blankets, and bottled water enough for each of your passengers in case you are stranded for a period of time.

Reduce Your Risk of Injury as You Travel Through Ohio This Labor Day

To help prevent Ohio auto accidents, the NSC suggests driving defensively and taking extra precautions, like ensuring all passengers are properly restrained including making sure all children are restrained in the appropriate safety seats. Drivers should also prevent distractions by turning off their cell phones, or allowing a passenger to handle all phone calls or texts. Give yourself extra time to arrive at your destination, so you won’t be frustrated if traffic gets bad and feel like you have to speed to stay on time.

Stay Safe in Ohio for Labor Day – Don’t Drink and Drive

As the #Labor Day festivities wind down, you may not realize how much alcohol you have consumed. You may also have over done it on the food and desserts. If you have consumed any alcohol or if you are feeling tired and worn out, let someone else drive home. There is nothing more important than arriving home safely.
